DAY OF

TATTOO

Getting a new tattoo, as exciting it may be, also comes with it's anxieties as something permanent is being done to your body. This is totally normal, and what helps during the tattoo process is having realistic expectations. With that, tattoos hurt and your body needs good rest and a full belly to help endure the trauma that it is going to undergo. It is best to prepare your mind with an expectation of discomfort and to prepare your body with sleep and a good meal prior to your appointment. You may bring any pillows and/or blankets to help you to get comfy. Also, feel free to bring a friend and/or entertainment and earphones.

THE PROCESS:

- clean the area of application.

- stencil and/or draw on the design of your tattoo.

- tattoo.

AFTERCARE

Traditional Process:

about 2-3 week healing process.

CLEANLINESS

Cleanliness is of the utmost importance when caring for your new tattoo. You want to make sure that you gently wash with antibacterial non-odor soap 3-5 times a day. Gently wash and lather with soap. Then dry by dabbing your tattoo with a towel or paper towel. In the first 3-5 days, you want to also make sure you keep your tattoo in clean environments as much as possible. This beginning stage is imperative as your skin is just starting to heal and is still considered a open wound. Therefore, it is good to avoid heavy sweating as that may prolong the healing process.

NO SCRATCHING

No scratching and/or picking the entire 3 weeks. This is something that can also be applied for the rest of your life. But for the next 3 weeks as your tattoo heals, any scratching and/or picking is causing extra trauma to your skin and may result in ink getting plucked out of your skin or even keloids where a scar forms. Scratching and picking will also result in a longer healing process.

HYDRATION

Keeping your new tattoo hydrated is important because without hydration your tattoo is more likely to scab, be itchy, and possibly cause some ink to get picked out of your skin. You want to make sure to use a water based unscented lotion up to 3 times a day. When applying lotion, it is important to have clean hands so make sure to wash before applying. You want to only put on a thin layer on top of the tattoo; overdoing it and putting on a thick layer may result in suffocating your tattoo and prolong the healing process, which gives it a greater chance of infection.

NO SOAKING

Do not soak your tattoo in any kind of liquid for 3 weeks. So do not go into the ocean, pool, jacuzzi, and tub. Soaking your tattoo also allows your skin to soak in any bacteria that is in that water. Therefore, you want to make sure you only shower for the next 3 weeks.

Second Skin Process:

about 1 week healing process.

1 DAY ON

Leave the first application of second skin on for one day after it is initially on. For entire duration of second skin, avoid any heavy sweating. During this time, you want to make sure there is no liquid going in or coming out. If you do see that, then take it off. Be aware of possible allergies to the adhesive. These are signs you may be allergic to the adhesive: hot skin where the second skin is placed, redness everywhere the second skin was applied, and/or little hives in certain areas where the second skin was. If you are allergic, do not proceed with next steps, but just take care of your new tattoo in the traditional way, mentioned above.

2ND APPLICATION

Once your tattoo is fully dry, you are ready for the second application of second skin. Do not put anything on your tattoo prior to the second application. It is important you take your time with this step and make sure your skin around the tattoo where the second skin will go is dry. After you put on the second application, make sure that all the edges are pressed down to ensure no liquid to come in or go out. If you have any air bubbles, do not try to get them out as it may lead to a puncture in the second skin, making it useless.

TAKE OFF

Take off the first application of second skin. The best way is in the shower or with running water so that the water helps break down the adhesive. You want to pick a corner of the second skin and slowly pull it back. Do not pull up, as that is more traumatic for your skin and increases the possibility of it plucking out ink. During this step take your time, you may feel some pain while doing this. Once it is off, you may wash your tattoo with a non-odor antibacterial soap. Gently lather and wash off. After you are done, you want to dab dry the tattoo and let it breathe for about five to ten minutes.

4 DAYS ON

Leave the second application on for four days. While it is on, treat it the same as the first application. Keeping a watch for any liquids coming in or going out. After the four days are complete, repeat the take off step. You may have some adhesive residue after, that's okay. It will eventually all wash off.
