DAY OF

TATTOO

Getting a new tattoo, as exciting it may be, also comes with it's anxieties as something permanent is being done to your body. This is totally normal, and what helps during the tattoo process is having realistic expectations. With that, tattoos hurt and your body needs good rest and a full belly to help endure the trauma that it is going to undergo. It is best to prepare your mind with an expectation of discomfort and to prepare your body with sleep and a good meal prior to your appointment. You may bring any pillows and/or blankets to help you to get comfy. Also, feel free to bring a friend and/or entertainment and earphones.

THE PROCESS:

- clean the area of application.

- stencil and/or draw on the design of your tattoo.

- tattoo.

AFTERCARE

Traditional Process:

about 2-3 week healing process.

CLEANLINESS

Cleanliness is of the utmost importance when caring for your new tattoo. You want to make sure that you gently wash with antibacterial non-odor soap 3-5 times a day. Gently wash and lather with soap. Then dry by dabbing your tattoo with a towel or paper towel. In the first 3-5 days, you want to also make sure you keep your tattoo in clean environments as much as possible. This beginning stage is imperative as your skin is just starting to heal and is still considered a open wound. Therefore, it is good to avoid heavy sweating as that may prolong the healing process.

NO SCRATCHING

No scratching and/or picking the entire 3 weeks. This is something that can also be applied for the rest of your life. But for the next 3 weeks as your tattoo heals, any scratching and/or picking is causing extra trauma to your skin and may result in ink getting plucked out of your skin or even keloids where a scar forms. Scratching and picking will also result in a longer healing process.

HYDRATION

Keeping your new tattoo hydrated is important because without hydration your tattoo is more likely to scab, be itchy, and possibly cause some ink to get picked out of your skin. You want to make sure to use a water based unscented lotion up to 3 times a day. When applying lotion, it is important to have clean hands so make sure to wash before applying. You want to only put on a thin layer on top of the tattoo; overdoing it and putting on a thick layer may result in suffocating your tattoo and prolong the healing process, which gives it a greater chance of infection.

NO SOAKING

Do not soak your tattoo in any kind of liquid for 3 weeks. So do not go into the ocean, pool, jacuzzi, and tub. Soaking your tattoo also allows your skin to soak in any bacteria that is in that water. Therefore, you want to make sure you only shower for the next 3 weeks.
